Argus II Retinal Stimulation System for patients with retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration

The Argus II retinal stimulation system is an epiretinal prosthesis which involves the capture and digitisation of images from the external world. The artificial retina device consists of a tiny camera and microprocessor mounted on a pair of glasses, a receptor implanted behind the ear, and an array of 60 platinum microelectrodes, ranging in size from 250 to 500 mm, implanted in the retin. Genesearch BLN (Breast Lymph Node) Assay to detect the spread of breast cancer to lymph nodes

The GeneSearch™ BLN Assay is a qualitative, in vitro diagnostic test for the rapid detection of greater than 0.2 mm metastases in nodal tissue removed from sentinel lymph node biopsies of breast cancer patients. Results from the assay can be used to guide the intra-operative or post-operative decision to remove additional lymph nodes. Read more...


Nicotine vaccines for smoking cessation

Nicotine vaccines work by producing nicotine-specific antibodies that bind a substantial proportion of the nicotine molecules when they enter the bloodstream. The antibody-bound nicotine molecules are larger and unable to cross the blood-brain barrier, thus preventing most of the nicotine from entering the brain and exerting its addictive effects. Pregabalin (Lyrica) - Pfizer Ltd, is an [alpha]2-[delta] ligand that has analgesic, anxiolytic and anticonvulsant properties. It is thought that pregabalin binds to voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system, modifying the release of neurotransmitters. Read more...
